  • What is NIL? In accordance with NCAA and Mississippi state law, intercollegiate student-athletes are now allowed to earn compensation for their name, image, and likeness (NIL) for commercial activities, including endorsements through traditional and social media, appearances, entrepreneurial activities, in-kind deals, autographs and more. In addition, intercollegiate student-athletes have the ability to retain an agent relating to this compensation.

 

  • What can student-athletes promote your business through NIL? Student-athletes can use social media promotions, autograph signings, making appearances, camps or lessons, and other similar events in which a business, brand, product, or service is promoted.  

 

  • How can businesses or individuals engage with student-athletes regarding NIL? Register with the Ole Miss Next Level Local Exchange.  With the new Local Exchange functionality on INFLCR, you will be able to contact the student-athlete through the message portal or post business opportunities on a virtual bulletin board.   • What resources are available for businesses? In conjunction with INFLCR, Ole Miss has launched its Next Level Exchange program to the public to assist student-athletes in growing their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).  Next Level Exchange is a platform available free of charge to both student-athletes and third parties, to serve as a central location for NIL opportunities regarding Ole Miss student-athletes. The platform connects businesses and student-athletes to communicate, negotiate and enter NIL transactions. Next Level Exchange is a custom-built NIL registry for Ole Miss student-athletes to connect with businesses, collectives, donors, alumni fans and others looking to work with the Rebels. Registered parties will utilize the platform to search and initiate conversations with Ole Miss student-athletes to work toward a NIL deal. Once a NIL deal has been completed, the business will use the Next Level Exchange to create a transaction and produce a direct payment to the student-athlete. Businesses, collectives or individuals can now register for Next Level Exchange at: OleMissNextLevel.com 

 

  • May a student-athlete receive NIL compensation based on the student-athlete’s athletic performance at Ole Miss? No.

 

  • What kinds of promotions are prohibited? Student-athletes may not enter a NIL contract to receive compensation for the advertisement, endorsement, or promotion of the the following: 
    • Gambling
    • Sports Betting 
    • Controlled Substances 
    • Marijuana, Tobacco, or Alcohol
    • Alternative or Electronic nicotine product or delivery system
    • Performance Enhancing Supplements 
    • Adult Entertainment
    • Any Product Inconsistent with Values & Mission of the University or Reflects Adversely on the University or Athletics

  • I have an NIL question, who should I contact? Please submit a contact request form below, or reach to a member of our team.

 

  • How long does it take for a transaction to get reviewed? The goal is to approve transactions within five business days of submission to the INFLCR app. However, if the transaction requires additional research, it may take additional time.  

 

  • May student-athletes have representation? Student-athletes are permitted to retain agents or advisors for the purposes of providing counsel and assistance for NIL contracts. Student-Athletes are required to submit the name of their agent or advisor via email compliance@olemiss.edu.  Agents or advisors for student-athlete NIL contracts must be registered with the Mississippi Secretary of State and the Ole Miss Office of Compliance. 

 

  • May student-athletes use branded attire or material during promotional events (e.g., student-athlete filming endorsement ad while wearing Ole Miss hat)? Per state law, student-athletes may not enter into a contract for use of their NIL that uses the licensed marks or logos of the University UNLESS the University has provided written permission in advance of signing the NIL contract.  

 

  • May international student-athletes utilize NIL? International student-athletes should NOT enter into any NIL agreements without the guidance from the University of Mississippi Office of Global Engagement to discuss and prevent any complications with student visa/immigration issues. 

 

  • May a student-athlete receive NIL compensation based on the student-athlete’s athletic performance at Ole Miss? No.
